"The story behind

Since 1978, this bag has enchanted daily riders. First intended to tend horses, it is sewn without a lining and brightened up with an “H” perforation, which the initiates wear against the body, in order to allow the equipment to dry. With its girth-like shoulder strap, the Évelyne is the perfect heart-minder.

 Taurillon Clemence Leather
Named in tribute to the daughter of the designer who introduced it into the collections, this leather was developed for luggage and is the ultimate example of a grained leather that has been drummed. This process softens the skin and brings a generous grain to the surface.
First appeared in the collections: 1992

The Evelyne was named after Évelyne Bertrand, who was the head of Hermès’s riding department. Designed in 1978 to carry grooming equipment, (the perforated H was designed to enable air to enter the bag to dry the equipment,) it was originally sold in stores alongside other equestrian goods! Now only very occasionally offered by Hermés, its become more and more sought after due to its lessening availability.

 Details -

A fabulous piece, the leather is pristine, without any wear whatsoever.

Colour consistent, all stitching tight, edging in place and just the lightest, hairline scratches to the snap hooks of the shoulder strap.

A gently softened silhouette, there are natural undulations in the form which make up an entirely normal feature of these pieces.

The webbed strap is clean, still nicely smooth with one shallow, linear, sit impression where the sliding buckle has been previously set. 

Clean, self lined suede interior with gentle pile ruffling.
