Mulberry Elgin in Oak and Blonde Darwin Leather - SOLD
Made in England. A rare to find colourway, this vintage tote from Mulberrys finest design era is crafted in a fabulous two tone, tri hide combination.
This is a rare to find, 100% Authentic two-toneMulberry Elgin
in Oak and Blonde Darwin leather with antiqued brass hardware.
Now a vintage piece, the Elgin is a very roomy tote bag, ideal for A4 files with two adjustable external belts to vary the aperture so you can have it gathered or quite open. The top seals with a self locating popper that comes over to close and there's a handy zip pocket to the interior.
Very robust, extremely robust leather, its strong and thick but still supple so comfortable to wear and is a real work-horse of a bag.
Constructed from three distinct hides, the front and back panel of evenly grained, rich oak and the side panels from a fabulously creasy and characterful caramel shade, the trims are a smoother, pale blonde and all in a wonderful condition throughout for a piece of this age.
The blonde is not darkened, even on the straps, still nicely stiff and though the oak displays the usual darwin scuffs and light patination with a few small marks, (all shown the photos above) the bag shows very little wear at all.
Inking, (edge sealent) and stitching all in place, corners unworn. A stray inking mark to the inner side of the rear LH strap and a little streak on the external RH strap base. There's also a light one on the very top of the rear handle as present from the time of purchase.
Gentle patination to the base and a natural, diagonal striation in the hide on the reverse RH side of the bag, it all adds to the tremendous character and charm of this lovely Elgin.
Hardware is all excellent and the interior is self lined in entirely clean, ruffled suede, its a piece that will stand the test of time and just improve with age and use.
